First of all, Happy New Year! 2008 already. The cliche phrase 'time goes fast' applies.
Another photo-filled post. They were taken the day after Christmas in Bergen op Zoom in The Netherlands. It was stone cold, the wind was freezing and the skies were grey. Bleak, in one word.
Now can bleakness be pretty? One wonders...
A day out in Amsterdam, and not just any day. It was the day of the Canal Parade. Held to raise awareness for gay rights and general equality. The sunny weather definitely helped boost the festive mood. And the overall atmosphere was one of positivity; because in those hours everyone who came watching the parade, forgot the troubles in this world. All that was there was the warm rays of the sun, a soft breeze, and smiles. I didn't really focus on particular people in my shots or just the event. We just went around several places in Amsterdam and I photographed whatever I thought would be pretty. Well, I'm not sure if my definition of 'pretty' accords to accepted convention, but ... for me it was simply about 'the' moments. And I'm glad I fixed them in time.
It seems like I'm out of town more often during the weekends for the past months. Somehow taking off to another place in this country on my free days do me good. Me and a friend took a trip to Nijmegen, geared with our digital cameras, ready to practice some of our photography skills. ...Skills? What skills? I need to practice a lot more if I want to get something more/better than your average 'holiday snapshot' photos out of what I'm clicking. Haha. Uploaded some shots, it was clear day, so that was good. We had lots of fun hanging about the city, it was so clean everywhere, even cleaner than Amsterdam - gasp.
This place will become my music and books log. I actually read. Besides the pile of scientific articles and thick molecular cell biology books I have to digest for my studies, I try to find time to read for my own entertainment. I also listen to a lot of music, I like to collect CD's, they are becoming rare in a world where everything in music is mp3 nowadays. Unfortunately my finish-a-novel speed isn't high and I listen to too much stuff to keep track of every new album or song I've heard. But, I'd like to have a space reserved where I can post and review an actual book I read or music album I've listened to once in a while. Plus, I like my Vox too much to leave it pointless as it is now.
Still alive! And still haven't done anything useful to either of my two domains! Today I decided that once kaien.nu's two year deal expires, I'm going to drop it. I simply do not have enough time & energy to maintain two domains at a time. Still not sure if I should hover the sites at kaien.nu over to the main domain, or if I should just simply part with them as well.
Another thing is that I want to get a new domain name. I've had aquarel.org for quite the while now. The name is pretty dear to me, but I'd want to change it into something else as means of a new start, sort of. The new domain name would still be a .org and I've already got some name ideas.. I think I'll mention them once I'm sure I'd want a new name.. still have to think about that for now.
So far, I like Vox. The interface is glossy and it adds something fancy to the newness. I don't know how interactive it can get, but according to the Vox introductory texts very much. If all goes well and I get used to it, I think I'll replace my old blog with this one. I (still) need some place to talk about things that happen in real life or that are important to me on a personal level. Plus implementing pictures is a lot easier in this place so I'll want to post pictures from my collection of 'holiday pics' and uh yeah, just to initiate the steps that should bring to some sort of photo log/site at some point.
Testing how photo's look in a blog post...
